bread of the Irish

I made this Irish soda bread for St Patty's day.  It was delicious, easy and quick.
You may find it fun to know that in Irish soda bread, there is no yeast... instead, buttermilk.
now wasn't that fun, easy, quick and delicious?

ah... oui oui!

We had out of town guests come visit us last weekend and I got up and fixed breakfast for us all.  When you make your toast on a baguette, it really makes you feel good about yourself.

so no more sliced bread.  Baguettes are the way to go.

au revoir!

egg bread vs. mixer

my beloved mixer...

kneaded my egg bread dough for about 5 or 6 minutes and threw in the towel
started smoking and emitting a terrible smell
I'll be calling Kitchenaid tomorrow :(

egg bread... for Easter!

the winner.
it just kept rising and rising... and rising
like it had something to prove

"probably the most beautiful thing you've ever made." - my husband

probably the biggest thing I've ever made... next time I cut the recipe in half.

bread for friends.

Amish friendship bread... a friend gives you a starter batter, over the course of ten days you stare at it, wondering what it's going to taste like, mashing the bag every day, adding flour and milk on day 4. I was so ready to make my bread this morning and, of course, I kept getting pulled away from it. Finally, I divided up my own starters to give away, and made a mighty fine loaf of sweet Amish bread.

should I grow a long beard?
